--This is the fiction for everyone to understand about real Japanese visa system quickly.
Question:
I am an American.I have been married for about 15 years in Japan. My spouse is a Japanese.
But now I am going to divorce my spouse.
My visa is now "Permanent Residence".I got this visa 5 years ago.
Before that, my visa was "Spouse or Child of Japanese National".
If I divorce my spouse, do I have to leave Japan?
Answer:
No, you don't have to leave .
Because when a foreigner has "Permanent Residence"visa,his/her status will not be changed by divorce.
So it is said that "Permanent Residence"visa is "King of visa".
It is good for you to have changed from "Spouse or Child of Japanese National" visa to "Permanent Residence"visa. If you had not changed, you should have to go back.
After divorce, you can still take any job in Japan as before.
And you can also marry again in Japan.Even though the new partner would be a foreigner, the new patner will be able to take any job, too.
The new partner's visa will be "Spouse or Child of PermanentResidence".
